The Journey to Taif: A Test of Patience
Long ago, in the city of Makkah, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) faced great challenges. The people of Quraysh opposed his message of peace and kindness. Seeking a new place where people might accept Islam, he decided to visit Taif, a city known for its rich gardens and strong people.
Accompanied by his loyal companion, Zayd ibn Harithah(R), he walked nearly 60 miles under the scorching desert sun, hoping the people of Taif would welcome his words.
A Harsh Welcome
When they arrived, the Prophet (PBUH) met the leaders of Taif and invited them to believe in one God. But instead of listening, they mocked and insulted him. Not only that, they ordered the street children and troublemakers to chase him out of the city.
They threw stones at him, injuring his feet until they bled. Zayd tried to shield him, but the people kept attacking.
A Beautiful Prayer
With a broken heart and aching body, the Prophet (PBUH) finally found shelter near a small orchard.
As he rested under a tree, he raised his hands and prayed:
"O Allah, I complain to You of my weakness, my lack of support, and the humiliation I endure from people. If You are not angry with me, then I do not mind, for Your mercy is greater."
His words were full of patience and trust in Allah’s wisdom.
The Angels’ Offer
At that moment, something miraculous happened. Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) appeared with the Angel of the Mountains and said:
"O Muhammad, if you wish, I will crush these people between the mountains!"
Despite the pain he suffered, the Prophet (PBUH) replied gently:
"No, do not harm them. Perhaps their children will one day believe in Allah."
His heart was full of mercy, even for those who hurt him.
Moral of the Story
Not long after, a kind-hearted Christian servant named Addas saw the wounded Prophet and offered him grapes. When he heard the Prophet say "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah) before eating.
Years later, Islam spread across Arabia, and even the people of Taif embraced the message of peace. This showed that patience, forgiveness, and faith always lead to victory.
